

Razorbacks Slip to 6th But Still In Contention at NCAA Amherst Regional
AMHERST, Va. – Despite steady rain and conditions Razorback head coach Brad McMakin described as “horrible,”, the second round of the NCAA Amherst Regional was completed and Arkansas stands in sixth at +6 (566) with Mark Stockdale and Thomas Curry each among the top 10 individually.
Due to the conditions, the field played lift, clean and place and the average score to par was +6.6, compared to +4.4 above par in round one. Arkansas slipped two spots to sixth, but is battling Arizona and Florida Gulf Coast for the fourth and fifth spots. The top five teams after round three advance to the NCAA Championships.
Tennessee was 5-over in round two and leads the field at -4. Vanderbilt was one of two teams under par, at -1, and is second at -3. Oklahoma is third at +3. Arizona was 2-under in round two and moved up six spots to fourth at +4 after 36 holes. Florida Gulf Coast is fifth at +5 followed by Arkansas at +6.
Stockdale turned in a 2-under-par 68 and moved up eight spots into a tie for third with a 36-hole, 3-under total of 137 (69-68). Starting on hole 10, Stockdale birdied holes 11, 12 and 13. He dropped a shot on the 528-yard, par-4 16th to make the turn at -2. The sophomore jumped back to 3-under with a birdie on the par-4, 2nd hole. However, he dropped a shot on his final hole to settle for his 68.
Curry is tied for ninth after 36 holes at 1-under (70-69). He was 2-under on his front nine with bogeys on holes 12 and 15 and birdies on holes 13, 14, 17 and 18. He opened his inward nine with a bogey but got back to 2-under with a birdie on hole 3. However, for the second straight day, Curry bogeyed hole 6 before finishing his round with three pars for his 69.
John Daly II climbed 16 spots up the leaderboard with his 1-over 71 in round two. He is tied for 33rd with a 36-hole total of 144 (+4). He was even through 14 holes with three bogeys and three birdies before suffering a double on his 15th hole, the par-4 6th. Daly bounced back with a birdie on his 17th hole and finished with a par for his 1-over 71.
Erich Fortlage is 46th (68-78=146 / +6) and Gerardo Gomez is tied for 68th (74-79=153 / +13).
The third round is scheduled to be played on Tuesday. The tentative plan is for tee times off hole 1 at 9 am (ET) and off hole 10 at 9:30 am (ET). They do expect more rain overnight and the officials will provide an update around 7 am (ET) tomorrow. The NCAA Amherst Regional does have until Wednesday to complete the 54 holes.
