Razorbacks Suffer First Loss of Season to Bulldogs

NEW HAVEN, Conn. –  The Arkansas men’s tennis team (5-1) dropped its first match of the season after a 4-2 loss to Yale (2-1) on Friday afternoon at Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs obtained the early advantage with a victory on court one as Gogineni/Liao defeated No. 36 Connor Smillie/Jakub Vrba, 6-4. The Razorbacks fought back with a win on court two by No. 67 Eric Padgham/Ben Weintraub over Shuler/Tsoi at the No. 2 position to even the doubles score. It came down to court three where Brendan Boland and Lukas Palovic fell to Chung/Li to secure the doubles point for the hosts.

The Hogs regained some momentum at the beginning of singles play, with No. 18 Vrba taking down No. 82 Edward Liao on court two. In position No. 5, Boland fell to Ethan Chung in straight sets, while G. Elicha Navas battled with Zhengqing Ji on court four, earning a 6-4, 7-6 victory to tie the match. This is where the tide turned, as the Bulldogs rattled off two wins on courts one and six to secure their second victory of the season.

Ben Weintraub’s match went unfinished in the tiebreak of the third set.
