Razorbacks Surge into Semifinals at ITA Regionals

LINCOLN, Neb. – Day three of the ITA Central Regional Championships in Lincoln was a big one for the Hogs. Aleksa Bucan was the last remaining Razorback in the main draw, and four Arkansas doubles teams started the day still in the hunt.

Bucan faced No. 15 seed Nicolas Acevedo Saturday afternoon and prevailed with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory, booking his spot in the semifinals.

Two Razorback doubles teams also reached the final four, with both the pairing of Riccardo Trione and Oscar Pinto Sansano and the pairing of Melvin Manuel and Adrien Burdet winning two matches to reach the semifinals.

Arkansas entered the tournament with the second-most number of seeded players/doubles teams with five, trailing Oklahoma who brought 11 seeds. Arkansas is now tied with OU with the number of representatives in the semifinals with three each.

The final day of play begins Sunday morning with the semifinal and championship matches set. Bucan will face the No. 1 seed Mason Beiler from Oklahoma in the semifinals. Trione and Pinto Sansano will face Huber/Moreno Lozano from Nebraska in their semifinal match. Manuel and Burdet will face the No. 2 seeds of Alex Martinez and Nathan Han from OU in their semifinal match.
