Razorbacks T10 After Rd1 at SEC Championships
St. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Arkansas men’s golf team had a solid opening round by shooting a 1-over-par 281 to stand in a tie for 10th at the 2025 SEC Men’s Golf Championship, played at Sea Island Golf Club – Seaside Course (70).
Erich Fortlage led the Razorbacks with a 2-under 68 and sits in a tie for 14th, while John Daly II carded a 1-under 69 and is tied for 21st.
The Razorbacks are bunched in the middle of a group of 12 teams from fourth place to 14th, separated by just 12 strokes.
#2 Auburn separated itself from the field in day one with a 16-under total of 264. #7 LSU and #17 Texas A&M are tied for second at -9. #6 Oklahoma leads the bunched pack at -6, followed by #8 Florida (-5), #31 Georgia (-4), #20 South Carolina (-3) and two teams – #15 Alabama and #29 Mississippi State – sit in a tie for eighth (-1). The Razorbacks are joined by #1 Ole Miss and #69 Kentucky in 10th (+1) while #91 Missouri is two strokes back at +3 and two teams – #5 Texas and #26 Tennessee – are tied at 14th (+6).
Arkansas was as high as fifth midway through the opening round as Fortlage and Daly were both -2 through nine holes. Fortlage dropped a shot on 11 but got back to 2-under with a birdie on 13 before closing his round with five pars for his 68. Daly suffered a double bogey on 10 but answered with birdies on holes 12 and 14. However, he dropped a shot on 18 for his 1-under round of 69.
Mark Stockdale is tied for 40th. He started on hole 10 and was 1-over at the turn with bogeys on holes 12 and 18 and a birdie on 15. He fell to +3 after bogeys on holes 1 and 3 but played his final six holes at 2-under to card a 71.
Thomas Curry is tied for 60th as he had three bogeys and 16 pars for an opening-round 73. Gerardo Gomez it tied for 70th as he shot 74 in round one.
Round two of three of the stroke play portion is set for Thursday. The individual champion will be crowned after Friday’s final round and the top eight teams will advance to match play to determine the SEC team champion.
