Razorbacks Tabbed Second In SEC Preseason Coaches Poll
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Following an SEC title, South Central Regional Championship, and a fifth-place finish at the 2017 NCAA Championships last season, the Arkansas men’s cross country team heads into the 2018 campaign as the preseason No. 2 in the SEC Cross Country Coaches’ Preseason Poll as released by the conference Monday afternoon.
While the Razorbacks lost Alex George and Jack Bruce, who finished fourth and sixth, respectively, at last years SEC meet, Arkansas returns Cameron Griffith, Matt Young, and Austen Dalquist who finished seventh, 11th and 13th in Athens, Ga. last year earning All-SEC honors. Arkansas also returns Andrew Ronoh, who was an All-Region performer for the Razorbacks at the South Central meet last season.
Rankings were tabulated with a vote for first place resulting in one point. A team with all first-place votes would receive 11 points, coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.
The Razorbacks have claimed eight-consecutive SEC Championships and 25 in the last 27 years. In total Arkansas has claimed 50 conference titles.
The 2018 cross country season beings Saturday as the Razorbacks travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma to compete at the Hurricane Invitational. The 2018 SEC Championships are slated for Friday, October 26 in Auburn, Ala.
