Razorbacks Travel to Stillwater for ITA Kickoff Weekend

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team heads to Stillwater, Okla. for ITA Kickoff Weekend to face SMU (1-1) on Saturday in the opener. The Razorbacks will face the Mustangs at 3 p.m. at Greenwood Tennis Center and either No. 4 Oklahoma State (3-0) or Clemson (3-0) on Sunday.

The Hogs and Mustangs have faced off 26 total times, with SMU leading the series 17-9.

The winners of Saturday’s matches are set to clash on Sunday at 2 p.m., competing for a spot in the ITA National Team Championships in Champaign, Ill. and Evanston, Ill. The consolation match will be played before the championship, at 11 a.m.

The Hogs are coming off the Duel in the Desert, where they competed against Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State, in Indian Wells, Calif. Junior Anet Koskel had a successful trip out west, winning two singles matches and one doubles match. Arkansas won seven individual matches, including two doubles and five singles.

SMU is off to a 1-1 start, having defeated Abilene Christian and losing to No. 21 Vanderbilt to start off the spring season. The Mustangs are led by senior Drew Morris and Ellie Pittman, who have two singles wins between them, playing the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. The tandem of Pittman and Sophie Llewellyn are 2-0 in doubles at the No. 2 position, while Morris and Arianna Stavropoulos are also undefeated at 2-0.

No. 4 Oklahoma State opened its season against Wyoming, sweeping them 7-0, and continued with two 4-0 wins against SEMO and Texas State. The Cowgirls’ singles lineup consists of four ranked players in No. 11 Ange Oby Kajuru, No. 33 Gracie Epss, No. 48 Anastasiya Komar and No. 58 Marcela Lopez. Kajuru and Komar combine to make the No. 34-ranked doubles pair but have yet to play together this season.

Clemson has started the season 3-0, beating Georgia State, Liberty and earning a sweep over Presbyterian. Playing in the No. 1 singles position, Amelie Smejkalova has started off 2-0, including a 6-4, 6-2 win in the Liberty match. Candela Yecora and Romana Cisovska are ranked No. 75 in doubles, starting the season off 2-1 in the No. 2 position.
