Razorbacks Up One to 9th After Rd2 at SEC Championships
St. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Thanks to a 4-under-par 66 by freshman Erich Fortlage in round two, Arkansas shot a 2-under round of 278 and moved up one spot into a tie for ninth with a 36-hole, 1-under total of 559 at the 2025 SEC Men’s Golf Championship, played at Sea Island Golf Club – Seaside Course (70).
The 66 by Fortlage is his best collegiate round and ties for the third-best round by a Razorback at the SEC Championships. (Three Razorbacks have posted a 64 at the SEC Championships, six have shot 65 and this is the 10th time in Arkansas history a 66 was shot.)
The Razorbacks are tied with #15 Alabama for ninth and the two are four strokes behind #20 South Carolina and #29 Mississippi State, which are tied for seventh, for the coveted eighth spot.
#7 LSU posted a day two score of 263 (-17) to tie #2 Auburn, who led by seven strokes after day one, for first, each posting 26-hole totals of 534 (-26). #6 Oklahoma was 12-under on Thursday and moved up one spot to third (542). #17 Texas A&M is fourth (545), #31 Georgia is fifth (553) and #8 Florida is sixth (554).
Fortlage started on hole 10 and birdied his first two holes out of the gate. He dropped a shot on 12 but birdied holes 13 and 14 to stand at -3 through six holes. He fell back to 2-under with a bogey on the 16 hole but played his final 11 holes at 2-under, thanks to birdies on holes 2 and 4 with nine pars, for his 66. He is tied for sixth after 36 holes with a 6-under total of 134, three shots off the lead.
John Daly II posted a second-round 73 and is tied for 42nd (69-723=142 / +2).
Fellow freshman Gerardo Gomez also helped the Razorbacks move up the team standings with a 1-under 69. He reeled off 16 pars, a bogey and birdies on holes 11 and 2 to record his 69. Overall, he is tied for 53rd with a two-day, 3-over total of 143 (74-69).
Mark Stockdale is also tied for 53rd (71-72=143 / +3) and Thomas Curry is tied for 61st (73-71=144 / +4).
The final round of stroke play is set for Friday and the individual champion will be crowned. The top eight teams will advance to match play to determine the SEC team champion.
