@RazorbackSD Opens Competition With Three-Meter Diving
IOWA CITY, Iowa – All four of Arkansas’ divers took to the three-meter springboards to open day one of competition at the 2015 Zone Diving Championships, Monday afternoon.
Freshman diver Nicole Gillis led the Razorback charge, scoring in the top-18 of the three-meter boards prelims to earn a spot in the finals (303.70). Gillis then narrowly missed the NCAA qualifying top-10, amassing a 320.55 score for a total of 624.25 points, good for 13thplace.
Juniors Hannah Bortnick and Shelby Bartlett were the next out for Arkansas, diving to a 22nd (287.90) and 29th (287.90) place, respectively. Senior Meghan Clark then secured 29th place with a score of 266.15.
The Razorbacks will all return to action on Tuesday to take on the one-meter springboards.
The zone diving meets then serve to qualify divers for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Arkansas will be competing in Zone D. Zone D is allocated eight qualifiers for the one-meter springboards, ten qualifiers in the three-meter boards and nine qualifiers in the platform. Unlike previous years, qualifying divers will only participate in the dives they qualified in.
