@RazorbackVB Boosts Roster With Pilar Victoria

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas volleyball head coach Robert Pulliza has announced the addition of outside hitter Pilar Victoria to the program for the 2015 season. Victoria spent the first two years of her collegiate career at Texas and will join the Razorbacks as a junior with two years of eligibility remaining. She will wear jersey No. 21 when she steps on the floor for Arkansas.

“We are excited to add Pilar to our program,” Pulliza said. “We feel we have a special group training in the gym right now and with Pilar and the other recruits we have lined up, we feel like we have put together a special group for the 2015 season. I’ve known Pilar for a long time so I know the class of person and player she is and I have no doubt in my mind that she will make an immediate impact on our team next year.”

Victoria brings high-level experience at both the collegiate and international level. With Texas, she helped the team two NCAA Final Fours during her time in Austin. She was also a member of the Puerto Rico Junior National Team that competed at the 2013 FIVB U-20 Championships in the Czech Republic and 2011 World Youth Championships in Turkey. On both of those teams, Victoria played with current Razorback Ana Sofia Jusino. The two played against current Razorback Chanell Clark-Bibbs at the 2013 international event.

The Caguas, Puerto Rico, native appeared in 37 matches including 14 starts in two years with the Longhorns. During her sophomore season, she averaged 2.06 kills per set and 1.94 digs per set in 16 matches. Victoria began the 2014 campaign with a pair of double-double efforts against UTEP and New Mexico. She also established career highs of 14 kills, 10 digs and four total blocks. Her success carried over into the classroom where she earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll during the Spring 2014 semester.

Out of high school, Victoria was named the top volleyball prospect out of Puerto Rico and the Elite Volleyball Player of the Year by Banco Popular. She also carries experience with the Puerto Rico National Team and helped the team qualify for the 2013 Grand Prix at the Pan American Cup in Mexico.
