Redlicki, Salazar Set For ITA National Indoor

Singles Draw

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – Two of the best players in college tennis this fall, Mike Redlicki and Jose Salazar look to end their respective fall seasons on a high note at the ITA/USTA National Indoor Championships in Flushing Meadows, New York, this weekend.

Redlicki, the No. 11 player in the nation, earned the No. 7 seed in the tournament after being one of six players to receive an at-large selection this past week. Salazar, the No. 45 player in the nation, gained automatic entry into the field with his ITA Central Regional title.

“One of the goals for every program is to put as many players as possible into the National Indoor,” Arkansas head coach Andy Jackson said. “That was certainly one of our goals. We feel good about having both Mike and Jose in this tournament. Both guys have had elite level falls and they deserve it. We hope they can be very competitive this weekend.”

Redlicki will face California’s Andre Goransson, the No. 17 player in the nation, while Salazar will face UNLV’s Jakob Amilon, the No. 124 player in the nation, in the Round of 32.

Redlicki enters the weekend with a 12-2 record on the season, 6-1 against ranked opponents, having won the Division I singles title at the Southern Intercollegiate. Salazar has won each of his last six matches, improving to 10-2 overall and 3-2 against ranked opponents.

“Both of them have a clear understanding and feel comfortable at this level,” Jackson said. “Neither of those guys have any doubts in their mind that they can win, regardless of the opponent. That’s something that is very valuable at this level.”

Arkansas is the only SEC school and one of six schools nationally with multiple players in the singles draw, joining California, Ohio State, Texas, Virginia and Wake Forest. Redlicki and Salazar are two of eight players from the SEC overall in the field.

Play begins Thursday with the Round of 32 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, the site of the U.S. Open. The Round of 16 and quarterfinals are scheduled for Friday, followed by the semifinals Saturday and the final Sunday.

Live scoring and updated draws will be available for the entire tournament on the official ITA event page, and every match court will be streamed live throughout the tournament on FloTennis. A subscription-based company, FloTennis offers its users monthly and annual rate payment options.
