Franks was the 2010 valedictorian, the 2010 Oregon State Champion in the high jump and was also a member of the state champion 4×400-meter relay team … Franks holds prep bests of 49.43 in the 400 meters, 171-9 in the javelin and 6-7 in the high jump … He won the decathlon at the 2010 USATF National Junior Olympic Championships (6,905 points) … Franks’ personal-best point total of 6,905 ranked No. 3 among high school athletes during the 2010 outdoor season.

Born Nov. 8, 1991 … He is the son of Larry and Ulrike Franks … As a Chancellor’s Scholar at the University of Arkansas, Franks completed his undergraduate studies in 2.5 years and earned two degrees in December 2012, one in chemistry and one in physics … He earned the chemistry degree as a magna cum laude graduate with a minor in history … Franks was a Fulbright Senior Scholar and posted a 3.96 cumulative grade-point average.
