SEC Championships Day One Recap

AUBURN, Ala. – At the end of day one of the SEC Championships, the Razorbacks have a score of 56 coming off of a solid performance by Malea Martinez on the springboard and a good showing in the 800 freestyle relay.

On the 3-meter, Martinez, a sophomore from Spring, Texas, dove well. Martinez earned a score of 261.60 which was good for a 15th-place finish overall, and seventh in the B-Final which was also good for 12 points towards the Razorbacks’ score.

The 800 free relay team consisting of Maddy Hartley, Betsy Wizard, Bara Matoskova, and Rebecca Simpson performed well, beating their season-best time by five seconds, setting some record splits on the way to an 8th-place finish overall.

The Razorbacks 200 medley relay team was disqualified in heartbreaking fashion, but there is hope for the Hogs and spirits remain high following a pair of standout performances today. “We know we are ready and already performing at our best. We will fight in true Razorback style each day, one day at a time for more personal bests and school records,” said Coach Neil Harper.

The Razorbacks will take to the water tomorrow morning for the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, and 50 freestyle. The action begins at 9:30 and can be streamed on SEC Network+ with live results being posted to Meet Mobile. The SECN+ broadcast can be found here: SECN+.
