SEC Freshman of the Week accolade for Scottie Vines

FAYETTEVILLE – In his debut indoor high jump season, Scottie Vines has produced a pair of victories and earned a second SEC Freshman of the Week honor after his 7-6 (2.29) victory at the Tyson Invitational.

Following a 7-3 (2.21) win at the Razorback Invitational, Vines improved his indoor best by three inches and moved to No. 3 on the Arkansas all-time list. Vines even bettered his outdoor best of 7-4.5 (2.25) that was set in winning the World U20 Championships this past August in Lima, Peru.

In improving to the height of 7-6, Vines defeated a very strong field as he attempted to equal the Tyson Invitational meet record of 7-7.75 (2.33).

Vernon Turner, an Oklahoma alum who is one of the three to hold the meet record, placed second with a 7-3.75 (2.23) clearance. Turner was a freshman in 2018 when he equaled the meet record, which ranks equal fourth on the collegiate all-time list.

Jamaican Raymond Richards tied Turner for second place at Tyson while Arkansas alum and four-time NCAA champion Romaine Beckford finished fifth with a height of 7-2.5 (2.20).

Vines moves to No. 3 on the UA all-time list behind Ray Doakes (7-7.25 | 2.32) and Kenny Evans (7-7 | 2.31).

For the 2025 season, Vines is the Division I collegiate leader while senior Eli Kosiba of Division II Grand Valley State cleared 7-6.5 (2.30) in December. They are currently the top two Americans and rank third and seventh, respectively, on the world list.
