SEC Runner of the Week honor for Amber Anning

BIRMINGHAM – A Co-SEC Runner of the Week accolade was awarded to Arkansas senior sprinter Amber Anning following a weekend which included a British national record of 22.60 on Friday followed by a world-leading 50.56 career best on Saturday during the Razorback Invitational.

The impressive individual double on the weekend by Anning was highlighted with a 51.05 second leg carry on Arkansas’ world-leading 3:25.59 4 x 400m relay, which included teammates Rosey Effiong, Nickisha Pryce, and Sanu Jallow.

This past week Anning was named to the Fall 2023 Dean’s List in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must achieve at least a 3.75 grade point average for the semester while completing at least 12 credit hours.

Holding a previous indoor 200m best of 23.27 and an outdoor best of 23.31 both from 2022, Anning broke a 25-year-old British 200m record with a 22.60 performance as she won her section and placed second overall to a 22.58 by South Carolina’s JaMeesia Ford.

Katharine Merry, who set the British record of 22.83 in 1999, posted a message to Amber on social media.

“The record stood for a good amount of time,” said Merry. “Amber wasn’t even born when I sped my short back and sides around the NIA! Genuinely delighted to see if all as shows UK female sprinting in good health.”

In the 400m, the 50.56 by Anning moves her to No. 10 on the all-time collegiate list while improving her No. 3 position on the Arkansas and British all-time lists. Anning is the third Razorback among the collegiate top 10 with record holder Britton Wilson (49.48) and Rosey Effiong (=No. 8, 50.54).

The Razorbacks relay performance broke facility (3:26.27 Texas A&M 2021) and meet (3:26.40 Arkansas 2023) records in the process of producing the No. 10 world performance, No. 4 collegiate performance and third best Arkansas relay.
