SEC Tournament Action Begins Thursday

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas women’s basketball team tips off the postseason Thursday taking on Georgia in the second round of the 2019 Southeastern Conference Tournament in Greenville, South Carolina.

Arkansas, the No. 10 seed, and Georgia, the No. 7 seed, both received byes into the second round and play in the 5 p.m. (CT) game Thursday. Tournament action gets underway on Wednesday with two elimination games.

The Razorbacks and Bulldogs meet for the third time this season in Thursday’s contest with Georgia winning the two previous games. Both games were close with Georgia winning the rebounding battle and the third quarter, 43-28, while Arkansas had the advantage in 3-point field goals, free throws and fewer turnovers.

Sophomore Chelsea Dungee paced Arkansas in the games averaging 23 points per contest and was one of four Razorbacks to average double figures against the Bulldogs. Malica Monk added 12.5 ppg, A’Tyanna Gaulden averaged 12.0 ppg and Alexis Tolefree scored 11.0 ppg against Georgia this year.

Tournament action opens Wednesday when Ole Miss takes on Florida and Alabama and Vanderbilt meet. The tournament features four games on Thursday with the winner of the Arkansas/Georgia contest moving on to face No. 2 seed South Carolina in the quarterfinals.
