SEC weekly honors for Kason O’Riley, John Scott Kendricks
FAYETTEVILLE – A pair of Razorbacks earned SEC Athlete of the Week honors with Kason O’Riley claiming Field Athlete of the Week while John Scott Kendricks earned Freshman of the Week following their performances at the Arkansas Spring Invitational.
Kendricks won the pole vault competition with a clearance of 17-0.75 (5.20) in his first outdoor competition of the season. The winning height ties Kendricks in the No. 10 position on the UA all-time list with Mark McGahee (1990) and P.J. Brown.
The top freshman in the SEC, Kendricks has an outdoor best of 17-1 from high school and set an overall career best of 17-8.5 (5.40) twice during the recent indoor season. Kendricks currently ranks sixth overall in the SEC pole vault outdoors.
O’Riley placed second in the high jump with his mark of 7-2.5 (2.20) matching the winning height. O’Riley established an outdoor career best in equaling the winning mark set by Wichita State’s Brady Palen.
In improving upon his previous outdoor best of 7-2.25 (2.19), O’Riley is now equal No. 8 on the UA all-time list with Ken LeGassey from 2015. O’Riley ranks equal No. 2 in the SEC this outdoor season and equal No. 4 nationally.
Both Razorbacks are scheduled to compete in their respective events at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational hosted by the University of Florida this Friday and Saturday, April 12-13.
