Shamier Little wins 400m hurdles at Rabat Diamond League

RABAT – Shamier Little claimed a victory in the 400m hurdles at the Rabat Diamond League as she posted a time of 53.95 seconds in her first hurdle race of the 2023 season. It’s marks the fifth Diamond League title in her career.

Little, an Arkansas volunteer assistant, finished ahead of three Jamaicans in the race as well as fellow American Dalilah Muhammad.

“I really had a good race, and I’m excited to get back and go over things with my coach” noted Little. “The time was ehh, but the execution of the race, I felt, as pretty good. It wasn’t perfect, but it was as close to being good as I expected. For the upcoming competitions I will just execute better and be the best I can be.”

Rushell Clayton was runner-up in 54.15, Shiann Salmon placed third in 54.42, Janieve Russell ran 55.41 in fourth and Muhammad placed fifth with a 55.72.

Little established the lead through the first half of the race, then had a challenge from either side of her by Clayton and Salmon over hurdles number 9 and 10. Neither were able to pass Little, who drove to the finish to secure the win.

In the Doha Diamond League meet a couple of weeks ago, Little finished second in the 400m with a time of 50.84.

“Track and field in an intimate sport, so to have the crowd so close it’s fun,” said Little. “You just feel you really connect with the stadium and the fans. The weather was in my favor. I loved the organization. It was wonderful and they treated us well.”
