Slow Start Plagues Hogs at Mizzou

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Hogs (11-9, 0-5 SEC) dropped their sixth straight game and fifth of SEC play after a 94-69 loss at Missouri (13-7, 1-4 SEC) on Thursday night.

Arkansas started the game just 1-18 from the field and was held to four points in the first quarter.

First Quarter – 4-20

  • Arkansas started Bates, Chlarson, Deas, Jones and Mayberry for the second straight game.
  • Missouri won the tip and scored on its first possession via Shannon Dowell.
  • The Hogs started 0-8 from the field before Taleyah Jones’ put back at the 5:02 mark. Missouri started on a 16-2 run.
  • Deas picked up two fouls in the first four minutes and sat for the remainder of the half.
  • Arkansas was 1-18 (6%) from the field and didn’t score for the final 2:42 in the first quarter.
  • Mizzou finished 4 of its last 5 from the field.

Second Quarter – 28-42

  • The Tigers started the second quarter with back-to-back buckets, a three from Chloe Sotell and a layup from Jordana Reisma.
  • Arkansas fired off a 12-0 run, capped off by back-to-back threes from Emily Robinson and Chlarson, to cut Mizzou’s lead to 9 with under four minutes to play in the half.
  • The Tigers were scoreless for 4:07 before Grace Slaughter got a put-back layup to end Arkansas’ run.
  • Missouri jumped back out to a 14-point lead after Abbey Schreacke completed a four-point play.
  • Mizzou’s Saniah Tyler banked in a three to close the half.
  • Arkansas shot 28% (10-36) compared to the Tigers’ 53% (16-30), but outscored the home team 24-22.

Third Quarter – 44-66

  • After Missouri made a layup to start the half, the Hogs went on a 6-0 run to make it a 10-point game at 44-34.
  • The Tigers led 50-39 at the media timeout.
  • Missouri hit back-to-back threes from Tyler and Grace Slaughter to push its lead back to 18 points.

Fourth Quarter -69-94

  • Jones picked up an and-one and a three-pointer to start the quarter for Arkansas.
  • The Tigers went on a 15-2 run and led by as many as 31 midway through the fourth.
  • Missouri finished with 28 points in the fourt, its best quarter of the game.

Game Notes

  • Chlarson finished with a career-high 14 points.
  • Three Razorbacks finished in double figures: Jones (22), Chlarson (14) and Mayberry (10).
  • Missouri shot a season-high 57.1% from the field (32-56). Arkansas finished shooting 33.8% (22-65).
  • The Tigers capitalized on Arkansas’ 17 turnovers, with 24 points off turnovers.
