Sockey Lands on SEC Community Service Team
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas softball’s Ally Sockey has been named to the SEC Softball Community Service Team, the conference announced Tuesday.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 21 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
An education major at Arkansas, Sockey is enthusiastic about giving back to the community as she participates in several community service events both on and off the field. She participates with Miracle League of Arkansas by assisting children with special needs play baseball and softball. With Miracle League, Sockey builds relationships with players and helps teach the game of softball.
In addition to volunteering with Miracle League, the Greenwood, Ark., native speaks at local Arkansas schools and discusses the importance of education and academics. Most recently, Sockey visited a school in Nashville, Ark., and discussed why it is important for children to stay on top of their grades and attend class. In addition to mentoring students on striving for academic excellence, she advises students on how to use social media properly.
Sockey also participates in Arkansas’ annual Salute to Veterans. She was named a 2022 NFCA Academic All-America Scholar Athlete.
Receiving the No. 4 seed and a double-bye at the 2023 SEC Tournament, Sockey and the Razorbacks will play in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m. CT Thursday, May 11, at Bogle Park. The Razorbacks will take on the winner between No. 5 Alabama and No. 12 Mississippi State/No. 13 Missouri. The game will air on SEC Network with Jessica Mendoza, Beth Mowins and Michele Smith on the call.
