Souza Named SEC Freshman of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas infielder Nolan Souza has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week.

The true freshman from Honolulu, Hawai’i, slashed a team-leading .571/.571/1.286 with a team-high three homers and a team-best nine RBI during the Razorbacks’ undefeated week, highlighted by their weekend series sweep over Ole Miss.

Souza had three multi-hit games, including two multi-hit performances in the weekend series against the Rebels, as well as a pair of multi-RBI games, including a five-RBI effort in the Razorbacks’ series-sweeping win. Souza’s two-homer game in the series finale against Ole Miss on April 6 was his second two-homer game of the season.

Souza is the second Arkansas freshman to earn a weekly honor from the conference this season. Left-hander pitcher Colin Fisher was named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week after racking up 10 strikeouts and not allowing an earned run over the first 7.1 innings of work on the mound to begin his collegiate career.
