Spearmon advances at USA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Former Razorback great Wallace Spearmon, Jr. had a solid showing in the 200-meter prelims on day three of competition at the USA Championships at Oregon’s Hayward Field Saturday.

Razorback and American indoor record-holder at 20.10, Spearmon, Jr. won his prelim heat of the 200 meters and finished fourth overall. He clocked a time of 20.53. He will run in Sunday’s semifinals at 2:12 p.m. CST.

Freshman Ben Skidmore competed in the junior 400 meters. He finished ninth with a time of 48.17. He was the first athlete left out of the final.

Senior Mychael Stewart competed in the long jump. His best jump of the day measured 25-3.25 in the prelims after two big fouls on his first attempts. He did not advance to the final. He finished seventh in his flight and 16th overall.

Stewart concludes his Razorback career as a two-time All-American in the long jump. During his tenure with Arkansas, Stewart competed in the 60, 100, 200, 4×100-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay at various times. He also had marks in the high, long and triple jumps.

Senior J-Mee Samuels opted not to run the 200-meter prelims. He ended his Razorback career with the running of the 100-meter prelims on Thursday. He closes his career as a four-time All-American, a two-time All-SEC honoree and the Arkansas record holder at 60 meters indoors (6.63) and 100 meters outdoors (10.08).
