Spink Earns SEC Freshman of the Week Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Freshman Indianna Spink racked up four impressive doubles and singles wins in a busy weekend for Arkansas women’s tennis this Friday and Sunday. Spink played in both the one and two spots for the Razorbacks in their wins over Kansas and Kansas State.

Spink’s recognition marks the first time since 2017 that an Arkansas Razorback was awarded SEC weekly honors of any kind, as she joins just eight other Hogs in program history to win the award.

In Arkansas’ double-header on Friday, Spink, and doubles partner freshman classmate Morgan Cross, helps the Hogs sweep Big 12 powerhouse, Kansas. In the number one spot for doubles, Spink and Cross defeated No. 40 Ngounoue and Manu and clinched the doubles point for the Razorbacks. The win is the first of many ranked wins for Spink and Cross at Arkansas. Spink went on to defeat Ngounoue in the number one spot during singles, taking down the Jayhawk (6-2, 6-4) to clinch the team victory.

The Razorbacks continued to sweep through their opponents on the weekend, taking out Kansas State on Sunday as well. Spink’s doubles and singles victories versus Kansas State were crucial in Arkansas’ third sweep of the season, propelling the Hogs to a 4-0 start for just the second time in six years. It also marks the first time since 2018 that Kansas State was swept by a non-ranked opponent.

Spink and Cross played in the number two doubles spot against the Wildcats, taking care of business early on Sunday and defeating their counterparts in 6-4 fashion. Spink wasted no time against KSU’s Karine-Marion Job in singles play, coming out on top, 6-3, 6-2.
