Spink Falls at NCAA Championships to No. 17 Tjen
ORLANDO, Fla. – Freshman women’s tennis player Indianna Spink represented the Hogs well in Orlando at the NCAA Championships, giving her best effort but ultimately falling to Oregon’s No. 17 Janice Tjen in the first round 6-2, 6-2.
Spink struck first, taking the first game of the match and going on top, 1-0. She and Tjen traded points for the first four games and the two were tied at 2-2 when Tjen stormed out to a 6-2 first-set win.
Battling from behind, Spink left it all on the court in the second set, taking Tjen to the deciding point in nearly every game. She trailed 3-1 but never let off the gas, going on to win a strong game late in the set to make it 5-2. She continued to battle, but in the end, Spink would drop the second 6-2, falling to the ranked Duck, eliminated from the NCAA tournament.
