Swimming signees named to top 100 recruits list

FAYETTEVILLE – Four University of Arkansas swimming and diving signees, Jamie Marks, Ashley Largo, Katie Kastes and Erica Totten, were named to the CollegeSwimming.com Top 100 Recruits list. A freestyle and individual medley specialist from Beesley’s Point, N.J., Marks was ranked the highest of all the Arkansas signees at sixth. Largo, a Sarasota, Fla., native who swims distance free was in the top 20 at 19th. Kastes, a free and fly swimmer from Clearwater, Fla., and Totten a free and IM specialist from Miami, Fla., were ranked 78th and 92nd, respectively. “Many in the swimming community recognize that our program is moving in the right direction and that we have some of the top high school seniors in the country coming to Arkansas next year,” said head coach Jeff Poppell. “These swimmers include Olympic Trial Qualifiers, National finalists, and individuals that are beginning to show their potential as outstanding swimmers to look for in the future. What the CollegeSwimming.com rankings don’t reveal is that all of these recruits are fantastic students as well that will contribute greatly to the quality academic environment that we strive for at the University of Arkansas. Needless to say, we can’t be any happier about our incoming class.” This fall Poppell enters his second season as Arkansas’ head swimming and diving coach.
