Sy-Savane earns a second SEC Freshman of the Week honor
FAYETTEVILLE – For the second time this indoor season, Arkansas hurdler Abdoul Sy-Savane has been named SEC Freshman of the Week by the conference office.
Sy-Savane equaled his career best of 7.68 to win the 60m hurdles at the Wooo Pig Classic by the narrowest of margins over teammate Karamoko Sacko, who also clocked 7.68 as runner-up. The difference between the pair of Razorbacks was 0.004 of a second.
The time by Sy-Savane ranks No. 9 on the UA all-time list and he is currently second among freshmen this season to a 7.59 run by Georgia’s Le’Ezra Brown at altitude in Albuquerque.
Running third leg on the Arkansas 4 x 400m relay, Sy-Savane split 46.89 as the Razorbacks won in 3:08.65.
The Arkansas hurdle crew ranks No. 1 for the second consecutive week this indoor with a four-person average of 7.61 seconds from the quartet of Jerome Campbell (7.57), Vashaun Vascianna (7.58), Sacko (7.59), and Sy-Savane (7.68). The Razorbacks rank ahead of Texas Tech (7.69) and Iowa State (7.85).
