Sydney Thorvaldson win Cowboy Preview 3k, Arkansas nearly perfect
STILLWATER – Arkansas won the Cowboy Preview with 16 points off a 1-2-3-4-6 finish at Oklahoma State on Friday morning as Sydney Thorvaldson led the Razorbacks by winning the 3,000m race in 10 minutes, 14.1 seconds.
Just one place shy of producing a perfect score of 15 points, Arkansas bettered a six-team field that included host Oklahoma State as runner-up with 53 points. SMU, ranked No. 2 in the preseason South Central region behind UA, finished third with 68 points. The rest of the field included Tulsa (105), Oklahoma (149), and Central Oklahoma (190).
True freshman Paityn Noe placed second overall in 10:14.8 during her Razorback debut while teammates Mary Ellen Eudaly and Laura Taborda were third and fourth with times of 10:22.6 and 10:24.1, respectively.
OSU’s Cayden Dawson finished fifth in 10:25.0, just ahead of Arkansas’ Mia Cochran, who placed sixth in 10:25.8 to complete the Razorback team score.
Heidi Nielson posted a time of 10:27.4 to finish seventh overall while Nyah Hernandez placed 10th in 10:42.6 as they were Arkansas’ sixth and seventh runners. Another pair of Razorbacks finished 16th and 17th with Olivia Pielemeier (10:48.5), competing unattached, and Mackenzie Rogers (10:49.3).
The next competition for Arkansas will be the Chile Pepper Festival on Friday, Sept. 29 held at Agri Park.
