Sydney Vaught leads Arkansas at SEC Championship
KNOXVILLE – Sydney Vaught, the SEC Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, placed 11th to lead the Razorbacks in the SEC Championship race on Friday, covering the 6,000m course at Cherokee Farm in a time of 20:25.1.
Arkansas placed 14th in team scoring, its lowest finish after a fourth-place effort in 2024. Razorback Joshine Mwaura, one of the top three runners for the Razorbacks this season, didn’t finish the race.
No. 3 Florida claimed the team title with 45 points. No. 25 Alabama, with a 1-3-4 finish, were runner-up with 117 points while No. 20 South Carolina placed third with 130 points.
Olivia Pielemeier was the second Razorback to finish as she placed 24th with a time of 20:42.0. Without Mwaura, the next finishers for Arkansas had adjusted scores in the 90s with Sanu Jallow-Lockhart (92nd, 22:27.1), Sorcha Shiu (96th, 22:38.4), and Madeleine Gear (98th, 22:43.1).
Arkansas will host the NCAA South Central Regional on Friday, November 14, at Agri Park.
