Three Razorbacks earn place on Jamaican Olympic team

KINGSTON, Jamaica – A trio of Razorbacks finished among the top three of their respective events on Saturday at the Jamaica National Trials to earn a trip to Paris for the Olympic Games. Carey McLeod won the long jump with Wayne Pinnock finishing third while Rojé Stona placed second in the discus.

McLeod, who won the long jump with a leap of 27-6 (8.38) qualified for his second Olympic journey, having competed in the long jump and triple jump during the Tokyo Olympics. Pinnock placed third with a distance of 27-1.75 (8.27).

Stona registered his best mark of 214-2 (65.29) in the fifth round to move ahead of former teammate Ralford Mullings, who finished third with a first round toss of 213-0 (64.92). Travis Smikle won the event with a final round 220-1(67.08) after leading the field with a 219-2 (66.82) from the second round.

The men’s 110m hurdles had alum Omar McLeod and Razorback Phillip Lemonious advancing to the final. McLeod finished second in heat two with a 13.34 (-0.9 wind) while Lemonious posted a 13.49 (-0.2) for fourth in heat three.
