Timothy Chesondin earns South Central Athlete of the Year

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas junior Timothy Chesondin was named 2025 USTFCCCA South Central Region Athlete of the Year in cross country via voting by coaches. This marks the six consecutive year for a Razorback to earn the men’s accolade.

Since the initial award in 1998, Arkansas distance runners have been named South Central Region Athlete of the Year 13 times by 11 Razorbacks with Amon Kemboi and Patrick Kiprop each earning the honor twice.

Chesondin completed his season with an All-America performance in the NCAA Championships as he placed 19th with a time of 28:52.6 over the 10,000m course at Gans Creek in Columbia, Missouri.

Earlier in the season, Chesondin won the 8k Chile Pepper Festival race at Agri Park in a meet and course record of 22:53.6. Then he finished third at Pre-Nationals held in Columbia with his fastest time over an 8k course in 22:49.7.

A bronze medal finish by Chesondin at the SEC Championships led Arkansas to a fourth-place team finish. Running on the Agri Park course, Chesondin claimed the individual title at the South Central Region meet, covering 10k in 28:44.4.

Chesondin was the top South Central runner at the NCAA Championships and the third best finisher from the SEC.
