Tygart on NCBWA Preseason Stopper of the Year Award Watch List

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas pitcher Brady Tygart has earned a spot on the preseason watch list for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award.

Tygart is one of 81 pitchers on the NCBWA’s initial watch list for the award given to the best relief pitcher in college baseball. Former Razorback pitcher Kevin Kopps, winner of the 2021 Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy, won the award from the NCBWA in 2021.

Tygart enters the 2023 campaign as a preseason All-American and preseason All-SEC honoree after emerging as the Razorbacks’ closer as a true freshman in 2022. He went 3-4 with a 3.82 ERA and a team-leading eight saves in 37.2 innings of work last season.

The Hernando, Miss., native tallied six multi-inning saves and struck out 51 while limiting opposing hitters to a .212 batting average. At the year’s end, he earned a spot on the Freshman All-SEC Team and was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball, NCBWA and Perfect Game.

Tygart and the Razorbacks open the 2023 season in the College Baseball Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, on FloSports.
