Volleyball Cracks Top 25 for First Time in Seven Years
After extending its match sweep streak to six with three more last weekend, Arkansas volleyball has found itself in the AVCA Coaches Poll for the first time since 2015, checking in at No. 24.
The Hogs had a successful weekend at home with sweeps over Little Rock, FIU and Colorado. Both the Razorbacks and CU Buffaloes were receiving votes last week, but Arkansas’ dominant victory was enough to push the Hogs into the rankings for the first time in head coach Jason Watson’s tenure.
Arkansas hasn’t lost a set dating back to Aug. 27, which was also the only match loss for the Hogs this season to then-No. 8 Washington, the evening after the Razorbacks defeated the Huskies 3-1 in the team’s highest-ranked win since 2007.
The Razorbacks briefly entered the rankings in 2015 after they defeated No. 9 Florida, but fell out the following week after a road loss. With that, this weekend will mark the first time that a ranked Arkansas team will host another ranked team at home since 1998, when the Hogs take on the No. 7 Georgia Tech Yellowjackets.
The top 25 match-up is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday at Barnhill Arena, and the Razorbacks also take on NC State on Friday at 7 p.m. to close out the homestand. Tickets are available online, by phone, or in person.
