Volleyball Receiving Votes in AVCA Coaches Poll

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After a road weekend featuring a pair of top-30 wins, the University of Arkansas volleyball team is receiving votes in Monday’s release of the AVCA Division I Coaches Poll. The Razorbacks posted a pair of five-set wins Saturday over then-No. 11 Wisconsin and Kansas State and are set to begin SEC play with a 10-2 overall record. Arkansas opens conference play Wednesday with a road match at LSU.

With their victory over the Badgers at the Creighton Classic, the Razorbacks posted the program’s first win over a ranked team since the 2012 season and its first over a top-15 team since beating No. 5 Florida in Fayetteville during the 2007 season. Arkansas’ 10 non-conference wins match the program’s high for wins entering SEC play, tying the mark previously set by the 1997 and 1999 teams.

Six of the Razorbacks’ opponents this year—including four SEC teams—are currently ranked or receiving votes in the AVCA national poll. Arkansas was last mentioned in the coaches’ poll after the opening weekend of the 2014 season when it was receiving votes. The team is also receiving recognition in the new PrepVolleyball.com Top 50, making its debut in that poll by jumping from unranked to No. 38 this week.

Through the first four weeks of the 2015 campaign, Arkansas is ranked 15th in the NCAA with a .280 team hitting percentage, buoyed by the efforts of Chanell Clark-Bibbs who is hitting .441 which is good for 12th in the nation. Junior transfer Pilar Victoria continues her offensive production with 4.28 kills per set and 4.81 points per set which rank tied for 25th and 28th among the nation’s attackers, respectively. At the setter position, Adrien Wohlschlaeger is tied for 33rd in the NCAA at 11.00 assists per set.

The Creighton Classic marked the end of the non-conference season and begins a stretch of seven-straight matches against opponents that played in last year’s NCAA Tournament. Conference play begins Sept. 23 at LSU in a match that will be televised on ESPNU. The Razorbacks’ next home match is Oct. 4 for their SEC home opener against fifth-ranked Florida.
