Werner Named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – All-American Taylor Werner has been named the SEC Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year by a vote of the league’s head coaches.
Werner, a senior from Ste. Genevieve, Mo., holds a 3.967 grade point average in Kinesiology: Exercise Science. Werner is a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and is the first female athlete to twice be named SEC Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
An SEC Champion on the track, Werner was also named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2018-19 for cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field.
This season she has a pair of first-place finishes this season at the Chile Pepper Festival and the John McNichols Invitational. The consummate No. 1 for Arkansas on the course this season, Werner has helped lead her team to a No. 1 national ranking in cross country – the first time in the program history.
The SEC Cross Country Championships will take place Friday in Lexington, Ky.
