Women’s Tennis Back On the Road at SMU

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team (6-3) is back on the road this weekend, traveling to Dallas, Texas to face No. 36 SMU (5-3) on Sunday, Feb. 27 before returning home to open up conference play.

Arkansas is coming off its first weekend at home, defeating Wichita State and Arkansas State on Saturday. The Razorbacks continue to roll in doubles play as the doubles tandem of graduate student Tatum Rice and sophomore Morgan Cross made their ITA rankings debut at No. 42. The duo is 4-1 in this dual season at the No. 1 position and are 14-4 overall.

In singles play, sophomore Lenka Stara continues to remain undefeated. Stara is 2-0 in the No. 3 position and 6-0 in the No.4 position having won her last nine matches. Junior Laura Rijkers also had a great showing on Saturday, teaming up with Stara to win both their doubles matches and clinching the victory for the Razorbacks over Arkansas State with a 6-1, 6-2 singles win on court four.

SMU is coming off a tight-fought 4-3 victory over SEC foe, Mississippi State. The Mustangs battled in a tiebreaker to win the doubles point and went back and forth in singles play with graduate student Nicole Petchey clinching the win on court five.

Graduate student Lexi Keberle leads the Mustangs at the No. 1 position, earning a lone third-set tiebreaker win at No. 24 Baylor. In doubles, Jackie Nylander and Claudia Bartolome on court one have won two of their last three matches.
