Women’s Tennis Drop Match to No. 16 Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla.  – The Arkansas women’s tennis team were unable to capitalize on an early lead in a 5-2 loss to No. 16 Florida. The Razorbacks fall to 9-10 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

The Razorbacks got off to a hot start, taking a quick doubles point with wins on courts two and three. The duo of Kelly Keller and Carolina Gomez Alonso only dropped one game en route to a 6-1 win over their Gator opponents. It was Grace O’Donnell and Lenka Stara who secured the early lead, taking a 6-2 victory over No. 60 Briggs/Gailis on court two.

In singles, the courts were split early on with the Razorbacks taking first sets on just three courts. The Gators took a two-point lead with straight wins on courts one, three and four. The remaining three courts were all going to third sets with Arkansas looking for wins on all three. The Gators were able to clinch the match victory on court six where Florida’s Bente Spee defeated Kacie Harvey, 6-4, 2-6, 2-6.

On court five, junior Morgan Cross put up Arkansas’ first singles point with a three-set 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Florida’s Emily De Oliveira. The Gators wrapped up the match with a win 7-6, -7, 3-6 win over Carolina Gomez Alonso on court two.

The Razorbacks are back home at Billingsley Tennis Center next weekend hosting Auburn on Friday, April 7 and Alabama on Sunday, April 9.
