FAYETTEVILLE – The Arkansas women’s tennis team begins its spring season this week as they travel to Indian Wells, Calif., for the 2025 Duel in the Desert, hosted by the Kansas Jayhawks. The preseason tournament runs from January 16-18 as the Hogs will face off against Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State.
The Razorbacks will begin play Thursday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. CT with Arkansas playing against all three teams in singles and doubles.
This marks the second straight year that the Hogs will be playing in the Duel in the Desert, with this being the first event of the 2025 season. The team will make the short trip to Stillwater, Okla. next Saturday, Jan. 25, for ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Razorbacks will then travel to Lawrence, Kan. to take on Wisconsin on Feb. 8 and Kansas on Feb. 9. Arkansas will begin SEC play on Feb. 22, facing Oklahoma at Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville.
The Hogs finished their fall season in November, competing in several tournaments and invitationals. Two-time All-SEC honoree Carolina Gomez Alonso picked up two ranked wins and four victories overall, tied for the second most on the team. Gomez Alonso enters the spring season ranked No. 72 in the latest ITA singles rankings. Anet Koskel ended the fall with a team-high five singles wins, including a 4-1 mark at the ITA Central Region Championships.
No. 67 Koskel and Grace O’Donnell earned a top-25 victory over No. 22 Garcia Ruiz/Noel (Oklahoma) while also advancing to the semifinals of the ITA Central Region Championships. The tandem earned five doubles wins in the fall to lead the Razorbacks, with the Spaniard duo of Olga Bienzobas and Carolina Gomez Alonso following with four.
Arkansas returns five players from last year’s team, while adding transfers Bienzobas and Brooke Schafer along with the freshmen trio of Jimena Gomez Alonso, Lilitha Ndungane and Katarina Pavlechova.
Tucker Clary takes charge of his second full season as the head coach of the Hogs.
