Benton Wins, One More Round In Mexico
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas women’s golfers Jordy LaBarbera and Cara Gorlei remain near the top of the leaderboard after three rounds of play at the Mexican Women’s Amateur Championship in Mexico City.
Junior Jordy LaBarbera shot 74–78–72—224 and moved up the leader board into a tie for fourth-place with one round remaining. Sophomore Cara Gorlei is tied with LaBarbera shooting 77–73–74—224 after Wednesday’s round.
Mexico City native Maria Fassi, the two-time defending champion at this event, is tied for 12th place shooting 75–78–78—231. Senior Summar Roachell rounds out the Razorback scoring with rounds of 77–74–81—232 and is 14th overall.
The 46-player event continues through Thursday at the Club d Golf Bellavista.
Cactus Tour
Razorback sophomore Kaylee Benton won an event on the Cactus Tour at Sun City County Club in Goodyear, Arizona, this week. She was one of 14 players in the event and one of seven amateurs competing in the tournament.
Benton fired a first round 5-over 39–38—77 and was tied for second overall. She bettered that with the low round on day two shooting a 70 to take the lead. Benton finished with a final round 76 winning the event by three strokes with a 223.
