Arkansas in Sixth, Gregg in Second After Round One at SEC Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 19 Arkansas Women’s Golf shot a 296 (+8) as a team to put the Razorbacks in sixth place after round one of the SEC Golf Championship at Greystone Golf & Country Club. Auburn finished the day at the top of the leaderboard, shooting an even-par 288. South Carolina (+1) and Florida (+1) follow, tied for second after 18 holes of play.

Leading the Hogs through round one was junior Julia Gregg, who played an incredible round to start the championship. Gregg carded a career-best 68 in round one, turning in a bogey free three-under 33 on the front 9 and a 35 on the back 9. The Texas native fired five birdies total over the opening round to lead to her four-under performance. The junior finished the first round in second place, just one shot behind Florida’s Marina Escobar Domingo.

Junior Ela Anacona notched a one-over 73, carding a pair of birdies on the front side of the course to help her finish round one tied for 11th place. Behind Anacona, junior Kajal Mistry finished the first round at four-over (76) tied for 42nd place.

Rounding out the Hogs’ lineup were freshman Giovanna Fernandez and sophomore Cory Lopez. Fernandez shot a seven-over 79 and is tied for 58th after round one with Lopez right behind tied for 66th place, after turning in an 81 (+9).

Arkansas tees it up tomorrow morning for the second round of three rounds of stroke play at the SEC Championship.
