Arkansas Posts 197 In Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Arkansas gymnastics team posted its highest regular season road score in program history with a 197.000 at Elevate the Stage in Birmingham as the Razorbacks finished third, just behind Georgia and Minnesota at the meet.

FIRST ROTATION: Arkansas Floor: 49.400
Arkansas set a season high floor score and cracked the top-10 in program history on the event with a 49.400 to start the night off in the lead at Legacy Arena. Junior Jessica Yamzon and freshman Kennedy Hambrick led the rotation off with a pair of 9.825s, one of which the Razorbacks were able to drop in the rotation.
Fellow Freshman Amanda Elswick in the third spot nailed her routine that began with a huge double Arabian pass which she was able to land en route to a season and career high 9.875. The score was followed up with an additional 9.875 from senior Sydney McGlone.
Sophomore’s Sarah Shaffer and Sophia Carter were in normal form on the floor, ending the rotation with a 9.900 and a 9.925, respectively. Proving strong once again in her signature event, Carter posted her seventh score of 9.900 or higher on the floor, including five-straight.
SECOND ROTATION: Arkansas Vault: 48.975
Freshman duo Elswick and Hambrick posted Arkansas’ highest scores in the second rotation off of their Yurchenko 1.5s, as the two posted a 9.875 and a 9.850, respectively. The Razorback nearly cleared the 49 mark again on vault, just missing the mark by .025. Shaffer posted a 9.775 and freshman Savannah Pennese scored a 9.750 to round out the Razorback’s top scores on the event.
THIRD ROTATION: Arkansas Bars: 49.375
Arkansas easily surpassed its season high bars score in Birmingham behind three scores of 9.900 or higher. The Razorbacks first scorer came in the second position with a season high 9.900 from sophomore Sydney Laird in what was two 9.900’s in a row, with the other coming from Hambrick.
The back end of the rotation saw a pair of 9.825s from junior Hailey Garner and Shaffer before Burton anchored the rotation with a career high 9.925.
FOURTH ROTATION: Arkansas Beam: 49.250
Trailing Georgia by 0.325 heading into the final rotation, the Razorbacks secured the score it needed to garner a 197 in Birmingham. Yamzon led off the rotation with a 9.800 that was followed up by a 9.850 from Hambrick. Hambrick scored a 39.425 in the all-around to surpass her season high team score for the team. The rotation ended with a 9.900 from Carter, a 9.800 from freshman Katarina Derrick, and a 9.900 from Burton as the anchor to give Arkansas its 49.250.
Minnesota posted a 9.975 in the anchor position on floor to pass the Razorbacks at the last second.
The Razorbacks will return home next Saturday to host Southeast Missouri, Lindenwood and Texas Woman’s.
