Arkansas Set for SEC Gymnastics Championships in Big Easy

The No. 12 Gymbacks kick off postseason competition on Saturday as they are set to compete in the 2024 SEC Championships in New Orleans.

Arkansas has been seeded fifth seeded fifth overall, the top of the afternoon session, and will take the floor at 2:30 p.m. The five-seed is the highest for Arkansas since 2021 and the second highest in head coach Jordyn Wieber’s tenure. They’ll be joined by No. 6 Missouri, No. 7 Auburn and No. 8 Georgia, all teams that the Gymbacks defeated in regular season conference competition. Arkansas has selected to compete on vault first and will go in Olympic order: vault, bars, beam, and floor. The 7 p.m. evening session will be comprised of No. 1 LSU, No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Kentucky and No. 4 Alabama.

The Razorbacks finished in fourth in the SEC regular season standings with a 4-2-1 record, the most conference victories since 2011 for the team and the second-most ever. Arkansas brings a 197.445 NQS into championships week, a program high.

The team will look to make some more history in The Big Easy on Saturday as Arkansas has never finished higher than fifth place at SEC Championships, which the Gymbacks did in 2018 in St. Louis. Arkansas’ program record team score at SECs came in 2023 with a 196.825, a mark the Hogs have surpassed in nine of 11 meets this season.

All-SEC and conference champions will be named at the meet. Arkansas has only ever had two conference champions: Casey Jo Magee and Jaime Pisani, both on balance beam and in 2009 and 2012, respectively. At last year’s championships, five gymnasts were named All-SEC or All-SEC Freshman Team recipients, the most since 2018 for Arkansas.

Saturday’s action will be broadcast live on SEC Network from the Smoothie King Center. Individual apparatus streams will also be available through the ESPN app, and live stats will be provided via StatBroadcast.
