Our History

Old Main
Old Main was the first permanent building on the University’s campus and remains the oldest building still standing on campus. It is tradition to point toward the Towers of Old Main during the
last line of the Alma Mater:“Mothers of Mothers, we sing unto you.”

Calling the Hogs
The Hog Call is one of the most recognizable chants in all of sports and is aRazorback fan favorite. Wooo. Pig. Sooie! Wooo. Pig. Sooie! Wooo. Pig. Sooie! Razor-backs!

Wild Band of Razorbacks Monument
In 1909, the University of Arkansas football team was greeted by a large crowd of fans and students at the Fayetteville train station. Coach Hugo Bezdek told the crowd that his team played, “like a wild band of Razorback hogs.” The following year the student body voted to change the official mascot from the Cardinals to the Razorbacks, giving birth to one of the most unique and recognizable mascots in the country.

Senior Walk
Senior Walk is the University’s longest tradition in miles as well as years. The University of Arkansas campus is the only college with a Senior Walk. The names of more than 175,000 graduates are etched on Senior Walk and counting, beginning with the first class inscribed at the foot of the Old Main steps.
