Carter Becomes Three-Time All-SEC Selection

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Senior Sophia Carter earned her third All-SEC recognition, as announced by the Southeastern Conference on Wednesday. Carter earned the honor when she scored her ninth-career 9.950 on floor at the SEC Championships in Huntsville, Ala. last Saturday.

With her stellar performance, Carter became the first Razorback to score a 9.950 on floor at the SEC Championships, recording the highest score since Kat Grable’s 9.925 in 2013.

Carter helped lead Arkansas to its first-ever spot in the evening session of the SEC Championship, guiding the Gymbacks to their highest floor score at the SEC Championships in program history with an impressive 49.425.

Five of Carter’s nine floor appearances this season registered a score of 9.925 or higher, including back-to-back 9.950s in Arkansas’ last two meets. She earned her first floor title of the season with a 9.925 against Alabama on Feb. 26. Heading into regionals, Carter currently ranks 17th in the nation on floor and is a staple in a Gymback floor lineup that ranks third in the nation.

In a decorated career, Carter has accumulated two SEC Specialist of the Week awards, a spot on the All-SEC Freshman Team in 2018, three All-SEC accolades on floor, back-to-back Regular Season All-America honors and stands among the best in the Arkansas record book.

To earn All-SEC recognition, gymnasts must finish in the top two spots (including ties) per event in each SEC championship session.

No. 10 Arkansas returns to action next Friday, April 2, as one of nine teams to compete in the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional.
