Celebrating 50 Years of Title IX & the Razorbacks

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – As Razorback Athletics concludes of one of the greatest years of collective success in program history, it also pauses to celebrate the courageous women who led the way and the many other advocates who helped pave the way for opportunities for female student-athletes at the University of Arkansas. This week marks the 50th anniversary of Title IX, the law that provided for equitable opportunities in many areas, including athletics.

In 2021-22 alone, Arkansas has won eight Southeastern Conference Championships and earned eight top-10 national finishes, including five league titles and four top-10 finishes in women’s sports. With the sustained success the University of Arkansas enjoys today within its women’s sports programs, it may be difficult for some to imagine that not long ago, female student-athletes didn’t have the opportunity to compete for championships as part of the Razorback program.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX and the rich history of women’s sports at the University of Arkansas, Razorback Athletics will be highlighting some important milestones and recognizing some of those who have contributed to the growth and success of women’s sports in Fayetteville. Join us this week on the Title IX Anniversary home page on ArkansasRazorbacks.com, as we reflect on our humble beginnings and celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of women’s sports at the University of Arkansas.
