Clay Henry: Expectations Soar As Opener Nears
What are your expectations for the 2022 Arkansas football season?
I try to slide quietly into a trout river when someone asks for mine. Picking a record is no fun.
I’m not qualified. I am like Roy Kent in Ted Lasso, when he briefly served as a TV commentator. I have not been in the locker room of the Arkansas team, much less the opposition. I have not looked into their eyes.
“We don’t know,” said Kent in his failed attempt as an analyst in one of the superb snippets from the streaming series on Apple. The other analysts winced. Act like you know, Roy.
I asked my father, the late Orville Henry, to write a summer predictions column for Hawgs Illustrated 25 years ago. He laughed and quickly sent a detailed account on how the Hogs were going 11-0. His clincher: that’s what is expected at Arkansas.
It’s been that way since Frank Broyles went undefeated in back-to-back regular seasons in 1964 and 1965 while winning 22 straight games.
It’s in our state’s DNA that undefeated is possible and should be the goal.
