Estes-Taylor Adds Homegrown Talent

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas women’s golf coach Shauna Estes-Taylor announced the signing of Rogers, Arkansas, native Brooke Matthews to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday.

Matthews began playing golf at the age of 12 and has been improving each year. She finished third in the 7A girls golf state tournament as a freshman and has won back-to-back titles as a sophomore and junior.

A multiple sport athlete at a young age, Matthews picked up the clubs after careers in competitive gymnastics and softball. In just two years, she knew golf was the sport she wanted to pursue. Growing up in Rogers and her swing coach, former Razorback Philip Walker from Back Nine Academy, were factors in Matthews’ thinking she would like to play at Arkansas.

This year, Matthews has picked up wins at the AWGA Match Play and ASGA Match Play Championships, the Arkansas Junior Amateur Championship and the AJGA Otter Creek Junior Championship. She is a four-time all-state selection and qualified for the U.S. Four-Ball Championship.

Matthews is the daughter of Terry and Gwen Matthews and has a sister, Brittany.

From Shauna Estes-Taylor
“I couldn’t be more excited to announce the signing of Brooke Matthews to our team. Brooke said she knew she wanted to be a Razorback when she was six years old and I knew when she attended my golf camp a few years ago that she was a young lady we had to have. Brooke brings so many amazing things to our team. She has a lot of the intangibles that you can’t teach – strength and length. This combination is a perfect recipe to be successful at the collegiate level. Mike (Adams, assistant coach) and I are excited to get her on campus and continue to help her gain even more tools and watch her blossom and grow to even greater heights. She has a game suited to win and I feel certain she will leave her stamp on our program in more than one way.”
