Fall World Series Set For Razorback Baseball
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Razorback baseball team is set to host its annual Fall World Series starting Monday, Oct. 17 at Baum Stadium. This year’s squad will be split up into two teams (Cardinal and White) and will play a best of five series throughout the week.
Over the six-day stretch, head coach Dave Van Horn along with his staff of Tony Vitello, Wes Johnson and Josh Elander will get a good look at the crop of Razorbacks that includes a large number of newcomers as well as key veterans that will play big roles in 2017.
Arkansas is returning nearly its entire pitching staff for 2017 as well as the top two hitters in juniors Luke Bonfield and Carson Shaddy. Both Bonfield and Shaddy were the only Razorback players to hit over .300 last season. Shaddy led all Arkansas hitters with a .332 average, eight home runs and a .521 slugging percentage. Bonfield led all players with 39 RBIs.
On the mound, senior Dominic Taccolini will lead the way for new pitching coach Wes Johnson. Taccolini is the lone senior starting pitcher from a year ago and will be part of an experienced staff that will include junior Keaton McKinney as well as sophomores Barrett Loeseke, Isaiah Campbell and Blaine Knight.
All five games of the fall series will be open to the public and are free to attend. Restrooms will be available inside Baum Stadium as well.
Pitching matchups and lineups will be announced prior to each game via Twitter. If the series is decided in four games or less, the team will still practice on days that games are scheduled. Those practice times will be announced on social media if needed.
