Fassi, Lopez qualify for Olympics
Two Arkansas legends will join the cast of Razorbacks at the Olympics in Paris later this summer with golfers Maria Fassi and Gaby Lopez each qualifying to represent their native Mexico.
Fassi enjoyed one of the most decorated careers of any Arkansas golfer, winning the 2019 individual NCAA championship to go with SEC Golfer of the year, the ANNIKA Award and the Honda Sports Award. She turned pro in 2019 at the US Women’s Open, where she finished T12. She won her first event as a professional in 2020 at the Cooper Communities NWA Classic. The trip to Paris will mark Fassi’s second straight Olympics after she finished 23rd at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
For Lopez it will be her third consecutive trip to the Olympics representing Mexico having already played in the games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and in Tokyo in 2021. In Tokyo, she held the honor as Team Mexico’s flag bearer at the opening ceremonies. She owns three LPGA wins, including her first in 2018 and her most recent in 2022 at the Dana Open. She starred for the Hogs, finishing runner-up in the 2015 NCAA Championship.
