Fassi Wins Second Consecutive ANNIKA Award
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Women’s Golf graduate Maria Fassi won the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel for the second straight year, announced Tuesday, June 4. With the win, Fassi makes history, becoming the only back-to-back winner of the prestigious award, as she also received the honor following the 2017-18 season.
Fassi was dominant in her last events as a Razorback, finishing the 2019 campaign as the SEC’s Individual Conference Champion and the NCAA’s Individual National Champion. With her historic postseason performance, Fassi became Arkansas Women’s Golf’s second-ever national champion, joining Razorback Golf legend Stacy Lewis, who won it all back in 2007.
The Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico, native continues to rack up the postseason honors, as Fassi also won SEC Player of the Year Honors while earning a spot on the First-Team All-SEC for the second straight season. She has received other national acclaim as well, as she was recently named the Ping WGCA Player of the Year, and was tabbed as one of four Finalists for the 2019 Honda Sport Award for Golf.
The ANNIKA Award is presented annually to the top female U.S. collegiate golfer. The winner is voted on by players, coaches and distinguished members of the golf media. The relatively new award has been around since 2014, and only three schools (Arkansas, Duke and UCLA) have had student-athletes take home the hardware.
