Five Hogs Garner Phil Steele All-SEC Honors
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.– Headlined by first-team All-SEC selection Andrew Armstrong, five Razorbacks earned All-SEC honors from Phil Steele Magazine, the publication announced Monday.
In addition to Armstrong, offensive tackle Fernando Carmona, running back Ja’Quinden Jackson and linebacker Xavian Sorey Jr. earned third-team All-SEC praise, while defensive end Landon Jackson garnered fourth-team All-SEC recognition.
Armstrong was the first Razorback pass catcher to earn First-Team AP All-SEC honors since Treylon Burks in 2021 and became just the sixth Arkansas wide receiver to do so since entering the league in 1992 on Dec. 11. The Dallas, Texas product registered a team-high 78 receptions for 1,140 yards and a touchdown during the 2024 season. Armstrong, who began his career at East Texas A&M (formerly known as Texas A&M-Commerce) led the league and ranked in the top 10 nationally in receiving yards (7th), receiving yards per game (103.6, 4th), and receptions per game (7.1, 9th) at the conclusion of the regular season. Armstrong ranked second all-time on the Arkansas single-season receiving yardage list and single-season reception list while finishing the season with a 39-game reception streak, which ranked first among all SEC pass catchers and sixth nationally. His five 100+ yard receiving games in 2024 were the most since Treylon Burks had six in 2021.
Carmona made an immediate impact during his first season on The Hill while paving the way for 5,973 yards on total offense, including 3,571 passing yards and 2,402 rushing yards. The San Jose State transfer started all 13 games on an offensive unit that finished the regular season ranked 13th nationally in total offense per game (451.2) and 21st nationally in passing offense per game (269.2). Carmona earned SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors twice during the regular season following wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Sept. 2) and No.4 Tennessee (Oct. 7). The Las Vegas native blocked for 673 yards of total offense (314 passing, 359 rushing) while not allowing a single sack, during the Razorbacks’ dominant 58-25 win over Mississippi State (Oct. 26) and was part of an offensive line that helped garner 687 yards in a win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Aug. 29) and 648 yards of total offense at Oklahoma State (Sept. 7). Carmona is the first Razorback offensive tackle to earn All-SEC recognition from the league’s coaches since Dan Skipper in 2016.
Ja’Quinden Jackson made an immediate impact during his lone season in Fayetteville, rushing for a team-leading 790 yards and 15 touchdowns on 149 carries in 10 games. His 15 rushing touchdowns ranked third in the SEC and 13th nationally. His 15 rushing touchdowns are tied for the sixth most in a single season by a Razorback and were the most by an Arkansas ball carrier since Alex Collins rushed for a program-record 20 during the 2015 season. The Dallas, Texas product’s four multi-rushing touchdown games were also the most since Collins logged five multi-rushing touchdown games in 2015. Jackson opened the 2024 campaign with three consecutive 100-yard rushing performances courtesy of 101 yards against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, a career-high 149 yards at Oklahoma State, followed by a 147-yard output in a win over UAB.
Landon Jackson, who previously earned second-team all-league recognition at defensive end from the AP for the second-consecutive season, logged 49 total tackles, including a team-high 9.5 for loss and 6.5 sacks in addition to nine quarterback hurries, three pass breakups, a fumble recovery, a forced fumble and a blocked field goal. The Texarkana, Texas product became the first Razorback to lead the team in tackles for loss and sacks in consecutive seasons since Wayne Martin did so from 1986-88. He is the first Hog to lead Arkansas in sacks in consecutive regular seasons since Chris Smith accomplished the feat in 2012-13. He logged a four-game sack streak from Oct. 26-Nov. 23, becoming the first Hog to register 1.0+ sacks in four consecutive games since Deatrich Wise Jr. in 2015. Jackson finished his career as the only Razorback since 1997 to register 8+ total tackles, 3+ tackles for loss and 2+ sacks in multiple games, having accomplished the achievement twice.
Sorey led Arkansas with 99 tackles during the 2024 season. The Georgia transfer also registered 9.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, a pass breakup, an interception and three quarterback hurries. Sorey earned AutoZone Liberty Bowl Defensive Most Outstanding Player honors for Arkansas after registering 10 tackles in a 39-26 win over Texas Tech on Dec. 27. His 10 tackles against the Red Raiders are tied for the SEC lead during the bowl season. Sorey posted 10+ tackles during four of the Razorbacks’ 13 games in 2024, highlighted by a single-game career-high 13 tackles against Oklahoma State (Sept. 7) and Ole Miss (Nov. 2).
The Razorbacks finished their 2024 campaign with a 7-6 record following a thrilling 39-26 win over Texas Tech on the AutoZone Liberty Bowl on Dec. 27.
