Flatley Earns All-American Status, Williams Shines in Nationals Debut
Arkansas gymnastics officially closed its season on Thursday as graduate student Norah Flatley and freshman Lauren Williams took the floor as individual competitors at the NCAA Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth.
Williams, a Rogers, Ark. native, put down a solid vault in the second rotation in her first-ever nationals’ appearance. The rookie delivered a great Yurchenko 1.5 with just slight movement on the landing and scored a 9.825, which came in 20th in the session and 40th overall.
Flatley was one of the very last competitors of the evening as she headed over to beam in the fourth rotation. She was set up well as Utah scored 9.925 or better in the Utes’ final three routines on beam, including a Perfect 10. She was rock solid the whole way in her final collegiate routine, and nailed the landing for a 9.9375 score.
Norah came in seventh in the session and tied for eighth overall, which garnered her Second Team All-American honors. She finishes her college career as a four-time All-American, with two on balance beam. Flatley’s 9.9375 was the best-ever score by a Gymback as an individual beam qualifier, and third-highest in NCAA team and individual competition combined.
Arkansas has had at least one All-American honor from the NCAA Championships for the last three seasons and in each year that they’ve been held in head coach Jordyn Wieber’s tenure. She has coached three athletes (Flatley, Kennedy Hambrick, Maggie O’Hara) to seven All-America honors, bringing Arkansas’ program total to 53 since 2008.
